| | | | I sat on my bed, looking outside my window at the twinkling, white stars.
Those stars were away from everything. They had no problems, no worries, and no fears. Well, besides blowing up and becoming a super nova and all. But that’s not really what I’m getting at. It’s just...
“Sabrina!”
I jumped in surprise and turned around. My mother was standing before me, wooden spoon in hand.
“Mom, you scared me! Gosh, at least knock next time.”
My mother scowled. “Dinner is ready,” she said, still scowling at me. I nodded, jumped off my bed, and headed downstairs.
My life isn’t really as simple as it sounds. My mom really isn’t my mom. She’s my foster mom. I surprisingly don’t have a last name, either. It’s just Sabrina. I mean, my foster mom has a last name, but she never told me what it was. Probably something ordinary, like Smith or Johnson.
As I was heading downstairs, I smelled a faint aroma of spaghetti and meatballs. “The third time this week. Really?” I muttered silently. I headed downstairs only to see a large white owl on a chair.
“What the heck? Why is there an owl in the kitchen!?”
The owl cleared its throat and spoke. “I am not ‘owl’, I am Gamma. You’ve been accepted to Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. I need you to come with me.”
“Wait, what—!” I began, but never got to finish because I was pulled into a giant swirling vortex.
I eventually came out of that portal and fell onto some stones.
“What…what just happened?” I sat up and rubbed my arm. I felt something wet trickling down my arm. My blood.
“Okay, I get here, fall on some stones, cut my arm, and now I’m left to die. Great!” I moan and lay back down on the stones. I didn’t notice all the people walking around me, until I heard a loud voice.
“Get outta the way…move it before I plow through you!” Someone yelled.
I sat up again and saw people jumping out of the way for this guy. After I saw two more people fly to the side, I finally saw the guy. He looked about my age, maybe even a bit older. He wore a medium sized, pointy hat and a robe with little lightning bolts on it. His boots were the strangest thing. They had small wings coming out the side, and weirdest of all, the wings were moving.
“I’m Daniel Everheart, Storm student. I’m here to give you the Grand Tour of this place!” He threw his arms up into the air and smiled. I looked at him in awe. ‘He’s probably crazy or something. I’m never going with him.’ I thought in my head. I guess he was an impatient person, because he grabbed my hand, pulled me up, and slung me onto his shoulder.
“What’s wrong with you? Let GO of me, you crazy psycho!” He just smiled and ran with me through the tunnel. When we exited out the other side, he set me down.
“What’s your name anyways?”
I glared at him and crossed my arms. “It’s Sabrina. Why did you need to know?”
He smiled cheerfully once more and said some crazy words. A feather pen and some paper appeared in his hands.
“I need you to fill out this test to see what school you are. Here,” he handed me the test, “it won’t bite.” I reached over slowly and grabbed the test.
“Question one…by myself…blizzard…creative…night, of course…group…polar bear…sapphire.” I handed the test back to Daniel and he let out a deep sigh.
“Well, Sabrina, you’re an Ice wizard it seems. I always thought you would be more of a Storm wizard, though. You’re obnoxious, loud, spazzy, and most of all, cute.” He turned pink once he realized what he said.
“Uhm, wait! I didn’t mean cute, I meant, uh…” He paused, trying to think of a word.
I smiled and felt a hot blush creep up on my cheeks. Daniel looked at me again and managed a weak smile.
“C-can I still show you around?” I nodded and he took my hand once more. He pointed to the left. “Over there is the Myth and Life Schools.” He pointed to the right. “Over there is the Ice, Fire, Storm, Balance, and Death school.” He tugged me along, eager to introduce me to all of the teachers. We first stopped at the Storm school, where I met Professor Balestrom and some of David’s friends.
“Oh, good day to you Daniel!” Hollered Professor Balestrom. A few students looked back at us and waved. Daniel waved and led me up to the table.
“Oh, who’s your friend Daniel?” the Professor asked, quite curious.
Daniel smiled. “She’s Sabrina. I’m giving her a tour of Ravenwood. She’s fairly new here.”
I noticed one of the students was intently staring at me. He looked like he wasn’t a Storm Wizard though. More of a Balance-y guy. We made eye contact and he smiled. I watched him ask Balestrom if he could be excused for ten minutes, and Balestrom nodded. He got up, pushed in his chair, wand walked straight over to Daniel and I.
“Hi.” He held out his hand. “I’m Seth Dawn, Novice Sorcerer.”
I took his hand and shook it. “I’m Sabrina, Novice…” I paused, trying to think of the word for Ice wizards.
“Thaumaturge,” Daniel said. I smiled at him and silently thanked him for the save.
Seth looked down at us with a weird look on his face. “Uh, why are you two holding hands?” He weakly smiled.
I looked down and gasped. I pulled my hand quickly away from Daniel’s and acted like it was never there. Seth sighed and walked back to his seat. He waved at me goodbye, and that was that. David took my hand again and pulled me out of there quickly. The door shut behind us with a loud *BANG*.
“That guy is such an idiot! Don’t talk to him, Sabrina.” Daniel hissed through his teeth.
“Uhm, I can talk to who I want, Daniel,” I said, my voice cracking.
“Don’t Sabrina. He does this to all the girls. I don’t want to lose—” He got cut off by the sound of hooves clomping over. I looked up and my mouth dropped open.
“Oh, hello Daniel! I see you’re doing well. Who’s your friend, dear? By the way, miss, I’m Moolinda Wu, Life teacher.” Moolinda quickly announced.
“I’m Sabrina. I’m a Novice Thaumaturge. I just got here.”
“Oh, that’s nice dear. I have to go, now. My students are waiting. Ta ta!” She ran off as quickly as she came, which was very fast for a cow.
Daniel sighed and pulled me over to the Fire school. He pushed open the door and stepped inside, me in tow. The Fire professor was a very beautiful. She had long hair that stood up in a very fluent motion, and she was tall and slender, her dress complimenting her nicely.
“Who’s she?” I asked Daniel.
“Dalia Falmea. She does Fire magic.”
“Oh that’s nice, maybe that could be my secondary school…”
David pulled me along, out the door, and to the Death school.
“Quick question. Why is there a giant hole here, and why does he look really cute?” I smiled and waved at him. He waved back.
I took my hand out of Daniel’s and walked over to him. I heard Daniel yell ‘Hey! Sabrina!’ but I didn’t acknowledge him. The Death wizard smiled at me.
“I’m Malorn Ashthorn, substitute Death teacher. Nice to meet you.”
“I-I’m Sabrina, Novice Thaumaturge. And it’s nice to meet you t-too…” I clapped my hand over my mouth and lowered my head. “I can’t believe I just stuttered,” I muttered silently.
He smiled. “It’s okay to be nervous, Sabrina. I’m not gonna laugh at you if you simply stutter,” He ruffled my hair and chuckled.
“I think I should get back to my chaperone…He’s kinda getting edgy about me talking to you.” I looked behind me and saw David sitting on a rock, waiting for me to come back.
“Well, I guess I’ll see you around then, Malorn.” I waved at him and ran off to David.
David looked up as he heard me approach. He stood up and took my hand and pulled me towards the Myth school.
He was about to push the door open when an elderly wizard appeared out of nowhere. “Sabrina, I’m Merle Ambrose. The Headmaster. I need you to come with me. Something bad is happening in Golem Court!”
“What? What is it? I’ll help!” I grabbed the Headmaster’s wand and looked at David sadly. Merle started chanting some crazy words (like David’s) and we began to slowly disappear. The last thing I saw was David jumping for my hand and grabbing it just before we poofed away.
