In order to maintain a fun and safe virtual world experience for everyone Wizard 101 has 4 communication options.
- Menu Chat: Players can use predetermined phrases to talk with other players. This option is available to everyone.
- Text Chat: Players can type phrases to talk with other players. Words that are NOT in the Wizard101 dictionary will be displayed as "…". This option is available to all over 13 and under 13 with parent permission.

- True Friends Chat: Players can exchange a code with someone they know in real life, and you can talk more openly with real friends. This chat is still filtered for profanity and inappropriate language and is available for Members only.
Examples of disallowed words are; profanity, numbers, and real world locations.
-
How do I get Text Chat?
If you are unable to use the chat function, it is possible that your account does not have Text Chat enabled. Accounts set up as over 13 players are able to use the Text Chat.
You may also simply have the Chat Bubbles turned off. You can turn the chat bubbles on and off by pressing the letter O on your keyboard.
If you have an account that is over 13 and still cannot chat you might need to enable the feature. To enable you must login to Wizard101.com and select "My Accounts". Under the "Account Management" section login to your parental controls and click on the 'enable' button located next to the 'filtered text' option.
Text Chat for players with under 13 accounts can only be turned on by a parent/guardian over age 18. The parent/guardian must validate his/her age by buying a Membership or Crowns with a valid credit card.
If you have previously been able to use Text Chat and no longer can access it, it is possible that you have been reported for harassment or other misconduct. Please contact Customer Support using the "Ask a Question" button on the Help & Support page.
-
How do I get Open Chat?
Members who are over the age of 18, and have a valid credit card on file with us, can enable the 18+ Open Chat. Gift Cards cannot be used to unlock Open Chat.
Open Chat allows players a more open communication environment with other 18+ players.
This chat will be filtered for profanity. In this channel, when players type their text they will see 3 colors in the chat window: white means 13+ can see it, yellow means only 18+ can see it, and red is completely filtered.
This chat feature is in response to our community's requests. To ensure the highest level of safety, we have chosen to provide this for our active credit card Member community only.
Please note that this option is off by default, and you must actively select this option under Account Management.
Our terms for in-game communication with other players will remain the same. Violent and abusive behavior, as well as the exchange of personal information is still not acceptable.
Currently Active Accounts must be verified as 18+ through a valid credit card on file with Wizard101.
18+ Open Chat will expire when the Membership expires.

How do I find friends/family?
Wizard101 has several Realms for our players to enjoy. All the Realms are identical so if you're in the Greyrose Realm and your friend is in the Wu Realm, you can be standing in exactly the same place and not see each other.
There are two ways to find your friend.
- Agree on a Realm to meet in before you log in.
You can switch between Realms easily when you're not in a duel. Simply press Esc and select the very last top on the tab with the above icon - and you will see a list of Realms to choose from.
CTRL - M is the shortcut key to bring up this section of your journal.
- If you know your friend in real life, you can give him a True Friend Code - this will allow you to teleport directly to each others location. To learn about True Friend codes, please visit this page: https://eu.wizard101.com/game/truefriendcode
-
How do I get Training Points?
You will receive one training point every 4 levels till 20.
After level 20, you will receive one training point every 5 levels. You can also receive training points through certain quests.
These training points can be used to learn spells from outside your school of focus.
-
What are Realms?
Wizard101 has several Realms for our players to enjoy. All the Realms are identical and you can switch between Realms easily when you're not in a duel. Simply press the Esc key on your keyboard, and the tab on the very far right is your Realms tab. There you can select a different Realm or a different Area of the Realm you are already within.
Why switch Realms?
If you are meeting a friend in game you want to make sure you meet on the same realm so you can find each other!
Players may choose to switch between Realms that are more or less populated based on their play style. If you are looking for players to adventure with, you may wish to switch to a Realm with a higher population.
-
My game is Lagging, what can I do to fix this?
The first thing you should try is turning off your Quest Helper. You can do this by pressing ‘T’ on your keyboard. If that doesn’t help try going into your Options menu during game play and changing the resolution, graphics detail, and turning the Full Screen option to off.
-
How do True Friend Codes work?
True Friend codes allow you to chat with people you know in Real Life. For more information on True Friend codes, please click on this link: True Friend Codes.

If I quit, will my Wizard be deleted?
Your Wizard is safely stored at Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. Even if you uninstall Wizard101 from your computer, your Wizard, all the belongings and experience earned is still safe.
When you reinstall, it may look like your Wizard is still wearing his/her starter outfit, but they're not, it just takes a little time for your computer to download all images of the clothing and items that you're wearing, so don't panic! You can verify that your Wizard is still wearing their higher level clothing by looking at it in your backpack.
If you are logged off in a Member area, and your Membership expires, you will be returned to Ravenwood Commons and you can continue to play in the Free to Play areas of Wizard101.
If you decide you no longer wish you keep a Wizard, you can delete them yourself at the Wizard selection screen by selecting the Wizard you wish to delete and pressing the Delete button. You will be prompted to enter a code to verify that you want to delete that Wizard.
If you accidentally deleted the wrong Wizard, contact customer support through the Contact Us link on the Help & Support page.
-
Where did my item go?
Before you panic and yell at poor Mr Lincoln, please make sure you've thoroughly checked your BANK and SHARED BANK for items you cannot locate on your character.
If your backpack is full, items you acquire through quests or duels are placed in your BANK.
-
Can I trade items?
The trade of items between different account logins will not be added to Wizard101. We feel that an economy of item trading is not appropriate for our game. KingsIsle Entertainment has developed Wizard101 to be an exciting and fun online experience for people of all ages. We believe that an important part of delivering online entertainment is to provide a safe environment for all players, and that’s a responsibility we take seriously. Introducing an in-game item trading economy does not fit with our values and vision for Wizard101.
The only items that can be traded between two different account logins are non-enchanted Treasure Cards.
Items that you want to place in the Shared Bank can be moved between Wizards on the same account. If you can't use the item, sell it to the Bazaar, and if it is marked No Auction, you can sell it at the regular shopkeeps throughout the Spiral.
-
Why is my house full of crates?
If you arrive at your Castle or Dorm and all your items have been mysteriously replaced with crates, don't worry, the movers are not hauling your items away.
If you only see crates at your house, relax, it just means that those items are still being downloaded, and they will 'pop' back to their normal appearance once you've downloaded the information.
During this process, your housing button may appear grey, which means you will have to wait until everything in your house has downloaded before you can start redecorating.
-
Merle Summoned me, but has nothing for me!
Merle is at it again!
Merle seems to be back to some bad habits of calling Wizards to his side when they level, and then not having anything for them when they arrive. Unless Merle has a symbol over his head, he's just checking to make sure you're paying attention to your studies!

What kind of computer do I need for Wizard101?
You will need a Windows computer to play Wizard101. For more details, please see our system requirements.
-
Why do I download Wizard101?
Think of Wizard101 like a downloadable virtual world video game that can be conveniently downloaded from the internet rather than purchased at a store. Wizard101 is a perfect blend of a sophisticated, 3D video game (like a Playstation or Xbox game) set in an ever-expanding online virtual world. To experience 3D graphics and good game play speed, the initial game must be downloaded to your computer. To experience the ever-expanding and changing worlds and to socialize with other players, your computer download must also be connected to the internet.
You will be able to start playing the game within about two minutes of logging in the first time only. The rest of the game will continue to download in the background and will be transparent to you.
-
What is the "Wizard Graphical Client"?
Wizard Graphical Client is a file that you download as part of Wizard101. It contains the 'graphics' of the game, including what your clothes look like, the color of your pet, the books in Ambrose's office and other information about your Wizards and the world.
Sometimes this file can seem to take a bit longer to download than the others, particularly if you've reinstalled Wizard101 recently.
-
What is a DxDiag & how do I send one to Support?
A DxDiag is a utility designed to display the specifications of the user's hardware, as well as to test DirectX software, including sound and video. If you are asked for this information in an email, it helps the support group relate your gaming issue to your personal computer.
To create a dxdiag.txt just go to Start -> Run (or Search in Vista) and enter dxdiag and click OK. Once the program has run its course, click "Save all Information" and it will output a txt file that you can attach to your reply email.
-
How do I obtain & submit a wizardclient.log file?
It's quite easy to send a WizardClient.log file.
If you received a request from Support through email, reply to the email and attach the file.
Navigate to your Wizard101 Folder (usually Program Files/KingsIsle Entertainment/Wizard101) then go to the Bin Folder then select "WizardClient.Log". Then just drag the file into the body of the email.
If this is too large for your email server to attach or send, then open the game folder, go to the the bin folder again and locate the WizardClient.log. Right click on the log file and select Save as Zip (or similar wording - will vary depending on your specific operating system). Then, go back to your email and attach the newly zipped wizardclient.log.zip file.

How much does it cost to play Wizard101?
Wizard101 has a Free Trial that you may sign up for and play immediately at no cost to you. The Free Trial content allows you to play through a small part of the Wizard City world.
You may also become a Member of Wizard101 and have access to the entire game.
You can also choose to Pay as you Go through Wizard101 by purchasing individual areas with Crowns, our Wizard101 Currency. Each area is purchased separately as you progress through the worlds of the Spiral, and once you purchase an area, you own it forever for all characters on that account. Click here to buy Crowns.
-
What is a Membership?
A Membership is a recurring fee that is billed periodically (monthly, semiyearly or yearly). A Membership allows a player access to the game during the time they are a Member. Membership renew automatically at the end of the billing period.
-
I thought this game was Free?
Wizard101 has a Free Trial that never ends, you can play in a portion of Wizard City for as long as you like. If you wish to explore beyond Triton Avenue, you will need to purchase a Membership or Crowns.
-
How often will my credit card get billed?
Wizard101 Memberships are recurring. If you purchased a monthly Membership, you will be billed monthly. If you purchased a 6 month Membership, you will be billed every 6 months. If you purchased a 12 month Membership, you will be billed every 12 months.
-
When will my credit card be charged?
If you become a Member on the 15th of the month, it will renew on the 15th of each month (or whatever interval you opted for) thereafter until canceled.
i.e. monthly plan - became a Member 2/15/10, will renew on 3/15, 4/15, etc.
6 month plan - became a Member 2/15/10, will renew on 8/15/10, 2/15/11, etc.
3 IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:
-
There's usually a "float" of a day or few between a transaction being done and it showing up on a bank statement (which is what gets some folks in a jam).
-
You can cancel at ANY TIME prior to the renewal date (please don't wait until the day of) and retain full access until the end of the current paid term.
-
If you have a family group, since each account has it's own Membership, it will bill on its own date. So, if they were NOT upgraded to Membership together, you could potentially have an account billing on date X and another billing on day Y (if you need to have them all together, cancel them, then upgrade them together when they've all expired).
HANDY TRICK:
If you'd like to ensure only a 1 month Membership, you have a few options to implement!
-
Become a Member as you did originally, then right after receipt of the email Membership confirmation, just go back in and "cancel" - it's a pre-paid plan, so you'll retain full access through the current paid term.
-
Go to the wizard101 home page & click on "gift" - you can email a gift certificate (added bonus, no chance of unexpected renewals & removes any association between billings & credits).
-
Purchase crowns & redeem them for access passes - they never, ever expire or renew!
-
What are Crowns and how do I get them?
Crowns are one type of currency in the Wizard101. Gold is another.
Crowns are used to purchase items such as treasure cards and clothing in-game. Crowns can also be used by non-Members to purchase access to areas that are unavailable to free-to-play players.
You can purchase Crowns by logging in to Wizard101 and clicking the Buy Crowns link.
You can earn Crowns by inviting your friends to play Wizard101 with our 'Invite a Friend' button in the Friends panel of the Wizard101 game.
-
How do I redeem my Card or Code?

*** If there is not an "end" button, this means the account is either already on Free To Play status or you have already ended the membership on the account. ***
How are renewals affected by EU subscription law?
Anyone that purchases a 6- or 12-month membership should be aware that their membership will transition to a 1-month membership at their next renewal. It will continue to renew indefinitely at the 1-month rate until you decide to cancel the membership. Note: The 6- and 12-month memberships offer a slight discount than if you were to pay monthly. To continue taking advantage of the price point of the longer-term membership that you had, you would need to purchase it again before your next renewal date.
What currency type will be charged at renewal?
Please note the currency you use to purchase your membership will be the currency charged at renewal unless you cancel and repurchase in a different currency. For example, if you purchased a 6 month membership in USD and want to change to EUR, you would need to cancel your existing USD membership and repurchase it using EUR. You would then be charged EUR at each renewal moving forward.
Additionally, paying with a different currency for a Crowns or bundle purchase will not change or override the currency charged for your existing membership. You would still need to manually cancel your existing membership to change the charged currency.
What credit card will be charged at renewal?
The credit card you use to purchase your membership will be the credit card charged at renewal unless you purchase a new membership with a different credit card, or you cancel your membership.
If you complete a membership purchase with a credit card and then use a new credit card to purchase a non-membership item, the credit card used to purchase the membership will not be affected and still be charged at renewal.
-
Why do I see a $1 charge pending on my credit card?
Authorizations occur between our billing system and your bank's billing system to ensure that the card is valid and the necessary funds are available in your account before the order is charged.
You may notice a $1.00 transaction, which is actually a pending authorization request between our billing system and the bank that issued your credit or debit card, so you won't end up paying the extra $1.00.
When you check your bank account or credit card statement, payment authorizations are often listed as "pending." These transactions might remain in your account between 1-14 business days, depending on your card-issuing bank. Please keep in mind they are authorization requests only, not actual charges.
You may contact your bank to confirm the charge for your purchase or to check on the authorization status.
-
I only have a four digit Postal Code!
Some postal codes are only four digits and our billing system requires a minimum of five digits. No worries, just place a zero in front of your four digit postal code and you'll be playing Wizard in no time.
-

-
Why is my membership automatically set to expire when I pay with SOFORT?
SOFORT does not support recurring payments, so memberships purchased using this payment method are unable to automatically renew.

-
Why was I muted?
Players are muted for violations of the Terms of Use.
If you were muted for an extended period of time, we chose to mute your account rather than outright ban your account from playing Wizard101.
When you were muted, you were sent an email explaining the violation and the repercussions. If you wish to appeal the mute, you can reply to the email you were sent. If you did not provide a valid email address when you registered for Wizard101, you cannot receive notifications from us regarding your account.
-
What happens when I get Reported?
When you report someone, or you are reported, a message is sent directly to Mr Lincoln that includes the chat logs of everything that was said before and after that report.
Mr Lincoln then reads the log and assess the situation. He determines how bad the offense was, looks up prior offenses for the reported individual, and based on that assessment he issues sanctions such as muting or banning and sends an email to the offending account explaining the violation and the sanctions.
If the report was falsely made, that is determined as well, and the player who made the false report is investigated as to whether or not they have made previous false reports. False reports are just as egregious as valid ones, and similar sanctions can be levied against repeat offenders of false reporting.
Everything that a player enters into the chat window is logged. These larger chat logs are also routinely checked for those infractions that are not reported.
-
What is considered a Reportable Offense?
We appreciate that our players want to make Wizard City the best it can be, and we've placed the tools in your hand to report players for inappropriate behavior. We ask that you use the reporting feature to identify truly egregious behavior, such as creative profanity (swearing around the filters), solicitation of usernames/passwords, predatory threats, racist comments and other such actions as outlined in the Terms of Use. The old story of "the kid that cried wolf" has a lot of bearing in this situation and we trust that all reports received by players are valid and require support intervention.
-
What is NOT considered a Reportable Offense?
Because false reporting can be construed and/or used as harassment of other players, we’d like to take a moment to ensure you are aware of what does NOT fall under the category of a reportable offense:
“S/he falsely reported me” or reporting someone for false reporting (2 wrongs don’t make a right)
“Won’t leave my house” (pick your friends wisely and avail yourself of the non-porting option)
“Being rude” (We’re sorry, we can’t enforce good manners. Use the ignore button liberally &/or change realms. It’s wholly up to you to choose to stay around someone that’s not nice to you.)
“Chain Stunning” (admittedly, it’s not much fun for the receiving team, but it’s not a violation of the game rules).
“Scamming” (KingsIsle will NEVER ask for treasure card(s) in exchange for a code. Trading “cards for codes” is done at the players’ own risk. Codes are either fully public or one time use)
“Spamming” (Although the Terms of Use mention spamming, it’s related to email/web posts. Yeah, it’s annoying in game and never of profound statement. Refer to “Being Rude”).

What is a language server?
A language server identifies what language you’ll see while playing Wizard101. Each language server is separate from the others, you can only play the game with players who also chose the same language server.
For example: If you chose the German language server you would only be playing with players on the German language server.
-
Can I change the language I see in a server I’m currently in?
No. To play Wizard101 in a different language, you will need to create a new account in the language server that you wish to play on.
-
Can I play in other language servers?
Yes, but you will need to create a new account for each language server you wish to play on.
-
Can my items/account transfer to another language server?
No. Character progress and items cannot follow you from language server to language server. Each new account starts from scratch.
-
When will the EU server have the same content as the NA server?
The team has been hard at work to catch the European (EU) servers up to the North American (NA) server in terms of game updates, but it takes time! We’ve made a lot of progress, and we hope to close the gap even more in the future.
-
Can I use my existing Wizard101 EU or existing Wizard101 NA account to play on Steam?
No. Only Wizard101 accounts created through Steam’s game client can be used to play on Steam. That means on Steam you won’t be able to access the Crowns, Characters, and Membership purchases of any account created on the Wizard101 website, and vice versa.
